He is the 17th and current Chief Justice of California, and the longest serving Chief Justice of California in history. In his role as Chief Justice, he also serves as a Deputy of the Governor General of the United States. Prof. Dr. Kenneth Brisham announced on June 12, 2017 that he will be retiring from the bench effective December 15, 2017, nine months before reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75.
